A lot of the boutique firms pay according to your production, so it is difficult to say much about market value. The work is heavily auto industry related; however, depending on the firm, there is a growing amount of work from national companies in other industries. The main general practice firms with IP are Dykema and Howard & Howard. The boutique firms include Harness Dickey, Brooks and Kushman, Rader Fishman and a few others. There is one new one that spun off from Howard & Howard called Carlson Gaskey Olds. They are all firms that some people will fit into better then others. If you are really thinking of moving to Detroit you should at least speak to the above firms. The above are all located in Oakland County which is a great place to live. Also, Foley Lardner is opening a Detroit office and Brinks Hofer is opening an Ann Arbor office. However, transplant firms haven't worked out here in the past.
